Another Broken Promise...
Democrats Have a Difficult Time with the Truth…When it Comes to providing adequate time to review legislation

Washington, DC – Rep. Tom Price (GA-06-R) issued the following statement today after Democrats gave Republicans less than 24 hours to review the new Rules package for the 110th Congress.

The Promise:

“Members should have at least 24 hours to examine bill and conference report text prior to floor consideration.” – portion of the Minority Bill of Rights; proposed by then-Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi; June 24, 2004

“[Pelosi] would also insist that bills be made available to the public at least 24 hours before they could be voted on by the full House.” – Washington Post; October 30, 2006

The Reality:

The Democrats are retracting more promises – this time to give adequate time to review legislation. Republicans have been given less than 24 hours to review the new Rules package. In spite of having twelve years to formulate a Rules package, Democrats have waited until the last possible moment to present it to Republicans.

“Apparently, promises made on the campaign trail will not be the promises kept in the majority,” said Price. “They campaigned on the pledge of a transparent Congress, committed to allowing enough time to review matters before the House. Rather than honor their word, they have chosen their first opportunity, a vote on the Rules, to undermine that pledge.”

“As a matter of principle, Americans desire fairness in the legislative process. The pending Democratic proposal on House Rules belies this principle. The American people expect and deserve better from their leaders.”

The Solution:

    Positive, Principled, Solution-Oriented Leadership
