Another Broken Promise...
Democrats Have a Difficult Time with the Truth…When it Comes to Working Five-Days a Week
Washington, DC – Rep. Tom Price (GA-06-R) issued the following statement today after Democrats recently revealed that there would be no five-day work weeks during the month of January.
The Promise: “Next year, members of the House will be expected in the Capitol for votes each week by 6:30 p.m. Monday and will finish their business about 2 p.m. Friday, Hoyer said.” – Washington Post, “Culture Shock on Capitol Hill: House to Work 5 Days a Week,” December 6, 2006
The Reality: Hailed with great fanfare, Democrats pledged a return to normal order and a five-day work week. But barely in control and Democrats are already backing off the vow and not holding regular legislative business in January. One look at the House Calendar and Democrats will not hold a single five-day work week in the month. January 2007 Calendar
“We all know the big national championship game is on Monday night at 8:00 pm; but taking an entire day to watch the game isn’t what we should spend part of our five day work week doing,” said Price. “Telling the American people one thing in front of the television cameras and then backpedaling less than one week into the 110th Congress is a symptom of a greater problem.”
“Democrats continue to make promises with great fanfare and sound bites only to realize they cannot deliver. The lack of a five-day work week is just another example in a growing list of Democrat broken promises to the American people.”
