Another Broken Promise...
Democrats Have a Difficult Time with the Truth…When it Comes to Fiscal Responsibility
Washington, DC – Rep. Tom Price (GA-06-R) issued the following statement today since Democrats have refused to apply PAYGO budgeting principles to their 100-Hour Legislative Agenda.
The Promise: “Our New Direction is committed to ‘Pay As You Go’ budgeting – no more deficit spending. We are committed to auditing the books and subjecting every facet of federal spending to tough budget discipline and accountability, forcing the Congress to choose a new direction and the right priorities for all Americans.” (Portion of A New Direction for America; proposed by House Democrats in the 109th Congress as their plan for the majority)
The Reality: Fiscal discipline is the latest casualty of Democrat rule in the House. House Democrats – in their lockdown law rules package, H. Res. 6 – waived all points of order, including PAYGO, against the legislative items considered this week. It means that the pledge of no new deficit spending and PAYGO budgeting will not apply to the first four items in the 100-Hour Legislative Agenda.
“Rules are not rules if you only follow them when you want to,” said Price. “Democrats promised to use PAYGO rules for everything; instead they are picking and choosing when to do so – that’s called breaking a rule and a promise.”
“It’s a matter of principle and accountability. Political convenience should not be a rule.”
The Solution: Positive, Principled, Solution-Oriented Leadership
