Another Broken Promise...
Democrats Have a Difficult Time with the Truth...When it comes to Bipartisanship
Washington, DC – Rep. Tom Price (GA-06-R) issued the following statement today after Democrats failed to fulfill their pledge of bipartisanship.
The Promise: “Tonight, we welcomed President Bush’s overtures of bipartisanship and we hope to begin working with him to move our country in a new direction." – Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Click Here for Statement; Accessed: January 23, 2007)
“We've established a tone of cooperation and consensus that extends beyond party lines." - Senator Jim Webb (Democrat Response to the State of the Union, January, 23, 2007)
The Reality: As part of his State of the Union address, President Bush reached across the aisle and proposed a bold health care proposal. Despite the Democrats’ pledge of bipartisanship, Representative Pete Stark (D-CA), chairman of the Subcommittee on Health in the House Committee on Ways and Means, is already executing the real marching orders of House leadership by refusing to hold hearings on the proposal (Key Democrat resistant to Bush health-insurance tax deduction, Associated Press, 1/22/2007).
“It appears that, in the minds of Democrats, bipartisanship along with the President’s health care initiative is dead-on-arrival,” said Price, “Even before the President had a chance to offer to the American people his proposal, Democrats wrote it off.”
“The American people have said time and again that they wish to put partisan bickering behind us. They understand that the difficult issues this country faces are best resolved by Americans working together. The President has said he understands the country’s frustration, and he looks forward to working with Democrats and Republicans to find lasting solutions. This is a call to duty we all must accept.”
The Solution: Positive, Principled, Solution-Oriented Leadership
