Another Broken Promise...
Democrats Have a Difficult Time with the Truth...When it comes to Funding our Troops Overseas
Washington, DC – Rep. Tom Price (GA-06-R) issued the following statement today during the debate on policy in Iraq.
The Promise: “There will be no de-funding of troops in the field.” – Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (Press Conference, 2/13/07)
“Our taxpayer dollars must go to protect our troops...” – Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA, Congressional Record, 2/13/07)
The Reality: “Rep. John P. Murtha (D-PA), a sharp critic of the war and chairman of a subcommittee that oversees defense funding, is separately preparing language to block money for the additional troops in Iraq...” (Washington Post, 2/9/07)
“The only way to diffuse the violence in Iraq is to de-fund the war in Iraq. Congress has the power to control the funding, and we have the responsibility to exercise the power vested in us by the Constitution.” – Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA, Congressional Record, 2/13/07)
“The Democrat leadership claims they have no intention of pulling the rug out from under our troops,” said Price. “Yet, they boast about doing just that. They threaten to cut off funding to our fighting men and women in order to underline their disappointment with the President. That is irresponsible. The defense of this nation must not be a political tool. We must send a clear message of support to our troops and a clear message of resolve to our enemies.”
“Remember, our troops and our enemies are watching. The discussion here in Washington is reflected in the newspapers and on televisions all around the world. We owe it to the brave men and women fighting for the preservation of our freedoms, to do justice to their sacrifice. We have a responsibility not to play politics with their needs.”
The Solution: Positive, Principled, Solution-Oriented Leadership
