Another Broken Promise...
Democrats Have a Difficult Time with the Truth...
When it Comes to Middle Class Tax Relief

Washington, DC – Rep. Tom Price (GA-06-R) issued the following statement today after Democrats passed their 2008 Budget Resolution.

The Promise:

“What we're saying is Democrats propose tax cuts for middle income families. We want to have pay-go, no new deficit spending. We're not going to start with repealing tax cuts, but they certainly are not off the table for people making over half a million dollars a year.” – Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CBS News Interview, 1/7/07)

The Reality:

Despite all the talk, the Democrat budget proposal will raise taxes on ALL Americans while authorizing $24 billion in additional non-defense spending. Under their 2008 budget, Democrats plan to repeal the 2001 and 2003 tax relief packages which will force 5 million low-income Americans currently exempted from paying taxes to begin doing so. They will reinstate the burdensome marriage penalty on 23 million Americans and reduce by 50 percent the child tax credit for 31 million Americans.

“Whether they are willing to admit it, Democrats are destined to raise taxes on middle class Americans,” said Price. “It is false logic to claim that repealing tax cuts for all Americans will only have an impact on a select few. Yet, this is the type of reasoning Democrats are counting on to balance their budget.”

“With the passage of this budget, millions of middle class Americans will pay thousands more each year in order to prop up a government that still refuses to reform itself. The majority may claim to support a new direction, however the American people have learned that new direction is backwards to the Democrat ‘tax and spend’ legacy.”

The Solution:

    Positive, Principled, Solution-Oriented Leadership
