Another Broken Promise...
Democrats Have a Difficult Time with the Truth... When it Comes to PAYGO Promises
Washington, DC – Rep. Tom Price (GA-06-R) issued the following statement after Democrats waived the PAYGO budget principle as it applies to H.R. 1905, the District of Columbia House Voting Rights Act.
The Promise: “To be clear, there is effectively no waiver of PAYGO, and Democrats remain committed to restoring fiscal responsibility to Congress...” – Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Statement on DC Vote Rule, 4/18/07
The Reality: Dig deeper into H. Res. 317, and one will find another Democrat closed rule that waives all points of order against H.R. 1905 except one. And of course, the rule waives the PAYGO offset required by Clause 10 of Rule XXI. In fact, 219 Democrats voted to waive the principle of pay-as-you-go budgeting to the DC Voting Rights bill (Roll Call Vote 229, 4/19/07). It appears that the Democrats have once again failed to fulfill their pledge.
“When given the opportunity to demonstrate a commitment to principle Democrats mask their true colors” Price said. “It seems Democrats only apply PAYGO rules during times of political convenience and only under the spotlight of television cameras and newspaper photographers. It’s unfortunate that Democrats have to hide their true intentions - the American people deserve better than that; and they are watching.”
The Solution: Positive, Principled, Solution-Oriented Leadership
