Washington, DC – Rep. Tom Price (GA-06-R) issued the following statement after Democrats falsely claimed to have amassed a strong legislative record since the beginning of the 110th Congress.

The Promise:

“House Democrats have listened to the American people and passed legislation that addresses their priorities to make America safer, grow our economy, care for our children and families, preserve our planet, and restore accountability.” – Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (Press Release, 5/8/07)

The Reality:

“Not a single priority on the Democrats' agenda has been enacted, and some in the party are growing nervous that the ‘do nothing’ tag they slapped on Republicans last year could come back to haunt them.” – (Democrats' Momentum Is Stalling, Washington Post, 5/5/07)

“Passing legislation and passing laws is not the same thing,” said Price. “Whether or not they wish to ignore the process, the House plus the Senate and the President’s signature are required to meet the success Democrats are already claiming.”

“Despite past promises of strong leadership and recent claims of success, the reality is that this new majority has failed to enact any of their agenda as advertised. The House Democrats chose to haphazardly push through bill after bill in the early days of the 110th Congress. They offered little to no opportunity for debate. And because of this zeal for superficial, printable success, their agenda has fallen off the radar. This is not real leadership. It is an exercise in public relations.”

“The pomp and circumstance of this new majority has delivered zero results. It is time we get to work on real solutions and that means genuine leadership which protects the lives and well-being of every American family. This majority has practiced a strategy of deception, not protection.”
