Another Broken Promise...
Democrats Have a Difficult Time with the Truth...When it Comes to Getting Spending Bills Done

Washington, DC – Rep. Tom Price (GA-06-R) issued the following statement after Democrats voted to change budgetary rules to let Congress adjourn before the appropriations work is done.

The Promise:

“Democrats are prepared to govern and ready to lead.” – Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Press Release, November 8, 2006

“The House [will] have all 12 annual spending bills passed by the July fourth recess, in order to give the Senate enough time to take them on…Given the House Democrats’ goal of having all 12 bills passed by July Fourth, it appears that the Defense appropriations bill will be the last train out of the station.” – (Forget About the Ongoing, Hostile Partisanship Over the $125 Billion Supplemental Iraq War Spending Bill, Roll Call, May 1, 2007)

The Reality:

After promising the American people that they could govern, Democrats have now failed to pass, as promised, all twelve spending bills in the House of Representatives before the July 4th recess. And, rather than keeping Congress in session until all spending bills had been debated and voted on, the Democrat leadership has chosen to change the budgetary rules of the House of Representatives so that Congress can adjourn before the work is done (Roll Call Vote 581, 6/27/2007).

“Once again, Democrats have apparently bitten off more than they can chew. Despite all their claims of strong leadership, this new majority has failed to bring these spending bills up for debate in a timely manner; now, instead of sticking around to get the job done, the Democrats changed the rules and went home.

“The congressional budgetary rules exist to ensure that the House of Representatives is doing its job. The American people sent us here to do necessary work and abide by the rules. Unfortunately, this new majority is too often ready to change the rules to fit their needs.”

The Solution:

    Positive, Principled, Solution-Oriented Leadership
