House Rejects Reid’s Debt Ceiling Proposal
Washington, D.C.– House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives voted down Senator Reid’s proposal to raise the debt ceiling.
“Senate Majority Leader Reid’s proposal is a perfect example of why the American people have such little confidence in Washington. It is full of budget tricks and accounting gimmicks that will not amount to substantial spending cuts and would lead to higher taxes for American families and job creators," said Chairman Price. "House Republicans believe we owe the American people something better than the usual games Washington has played in the past that have driven our nation toward this debt crisis. Senator Reid's plan is all about political cover for his party and the President. It demonstrates neither leadership nor does it hold Washington accountable to ensure a stronger economic future. The House has offered the Senate three responsible, realistic solutions to the looming debt crisis. It remains to be seen whether Senate Democrats will muster the courage to look past the next election and focus on the future of this nation. It’s time to put people ahead of politics, and progress ahead of partisanship.”
