Price Statement on Passage of the Require a PLAN Act
Washington, D.C.– Congressman Tom Price, M.D. (GA-06) issued the following statement today after the House of Representatives passed with bipartisan support the Require a PLAN Act (H.R. 444), legislation introduced by Congressman Price that requires the White House to either produce a balanced budget or provide a supplemental budget plan by April 1, 2013 that identifies in what fiscal year their plan would achieve balance.
“The American people are demanding that Congress and the President take action to address the growing debt crisis in this country so that we leave our children and grandchildren a nation that is fiscally responsible and economically prosperous,” said Congressman Price. “There is no way our nation can secure a future of growth and opportunity if the spending habits in Washington are allowed to continue to produce massive deficits while chasing every higher spending with ever higher taxes. By passing the Require a PLAN Act, the House of Representatives is taking the next step in making sure Washington puts in place a plan to balance the budget so that we can begin to pay off the debt.
“All we are asking of President Obama today is that he tell the American people when and how he would balance the budget. While the minority party in Washington, House Republicans have taken our responsibility as the majority in the House of Representatives to pass a balanced budget in each of the last two years. This year we will pass a plan to balance the budget in 10 years through commonsense measures that set priorities, save and strengthen the nation’s health and retirement programs, and put in place pro-growth policies that embrace free enterprise. That is a commitment we have made to stand with the American people and find real solutions to the nation’s spending-driven debt crisis.”
