Price Statement on White House Rejection of Keystone XL Pipeline
Washington, D.C.– House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) issued the following statement regarding the Obama Administration’s decision to not move forward with the Keystone XL pipeline. Meanwhile, reports have indicated that Canada is in discussions with China to market the energy resources overseas.
“When President Obama previously announced that his administration would avoid making a decision on this project until after the election, he showed clearly how far this White House is willing to go to place politics above sound policy and the need for jobs in America,” said Chairman Price. “In response, Congress fought in a bipartisan manner to have the Obama Administration stop delaying job opportunities for thousands of struggling Americans. Our nation’s energy security and economic growth should not come second to the president’s political agenda. With unemployment in this country stubbornly staying above 8 percent, now for 35 months in a row and far above where the White House promised we would be under their economic plan – the Obama Administration is saying ‘No!’ to tens of thousands of jobs for Americans. It is saying ‘No!’ to our ally Canada, and ‘Yes!’ to seeing these energy resources sent overseas. In short, the president is turning his back on America and Americans. America needs an all of the above energy strategy that fosters innovation in new technologies while accepting and encouraging access to available resources and the jobs that come with them.”
